Research & Thought Leadership Intern

Location: Remote

Hours: 10 - 20hrs/week

Salary: NON-paid Internship

MILK is a maternal health education organization focused on closing the gap between clinical appointments and real-life support. We believe maternal health outcomes improve when education is structured, evidence-based, and community-centered.

  • Community-based maternal support

  • Workforce development in maternal health

  • Systems-level thinking

We are seeking a Research & Thought Leadership Intern to help strengthen the research backbone of our work and expand our institutional credibility.

 
Position Overview

The Research & Thought Leadership Intern will support the development of white papers, research summaries, long-form essays, and LinkedIn thought leadership content rooted in peer-reviewed literature and current maternal health data.

This role is ideal for a student or early-career professional in public health, nursing, medicine, policy, sociology, or a related field who is interested in maternal health systems, workforce development, and community-based care models.

This is not a general social media role.
This is a research-forward, writing-intensive position.

 
Core Responsibilities
Research & Analysis
  • Conduct literature reviews using peer-reviewed journals (PubMed, Google Scholar, etc.)

  • Summarize research related to:

    • Maternal mortality and morbidity

    • Postpartum care gaps

    • Community-based maternal interventions

    • Workforce shortages in maternal health

    • Economic factors affecting maternal outcomes

  • Organize citations and maintain a shared research library

White Paper Development
  • Assist in drafting white papers on topics such as:

    • Structured maternal support models

    • Economic empowerment through maternal health careers

    • Gaps in postpartum care infrastructure

  • Integrate data, statistics, and references clearly and accurately

  • Suggest charts, graphs, and visual data presentations

Strategic Support
  • Help outline future speaking topics

  • Identify emerging trends in maternal health research

  • Monitor relevant policy changes or workforce data

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in:

    • Public Health (MPH preferred but not required)

    • Nursing

    • Pre-med

    • Health policy

    • Sociology

    • Women’s studies

    • Related field

  • Strong academic writing skills

  • Comfortable reading and interpreting peer-reviewed research

  • Detail-oriented and organized

  • Interest in maternal health systems and workforce development

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience formatting research documents

  • Familiarity with citation styles (APA preferred)

  • Experience using Google Docs collaboratively
