100%
FREE TO EVERY FAMILY
OUR MISSION
No Baby Should Come Home Without a Safe Place to Sleep.
Safe Start is a charitable initiative by MILK Maternity Group, created because too many babies are coming home to car seats, couches, and unsafe spaces because some families don't have the resources to provide better.
We partner with The Nursery Atelier to design and build complete nurseries for low-income families. But we don't stop at the room. We believe a safe space and a supported mother go hand in hand which is why every Safe Start family also receives feeding support and two complimentary postpartum doula visits.
From the first consultation to the final reveal, and through the hardest weeks that follow - we're there. No cost. No conditions. Just care.

OUR APPROACH
A Complete Wraparound Model
We go further than a beautiful nursery because a struggling mother is still a vulnerable family.

THE PROCESS
How it Works
From application to postpartum visit, here's what a family can expect when they come to Safe Start.
01
Application or Referral
Families apply directly or are referred through a partner organization, hospital, or community member. Every application is reviewed with care.
04
Installation Day
Our team transforms the space. The family sees their nursery at the reveal fully designed, styled, and move-in ready.
02
Design Consultation
Our intern designer visits the family to assess the space, understand their needs, and create a custom nursery concept just for them.
05
Feeding Assessment
Our doula or IBCLC offers support with breastfeeding and helps source supplemental formula if needed. No judgment.
03
Sourcing & Donations
We gather new and gently used nursery items — cribs, dressers, bedding, décor — through our community of donors, partners, and businesses.
06
Postpartum Doula Visits
Two in-home doula visits provide emotional support, newborn care guidance, and a referral if the family needs additional support.

WHO WE SERVE
For Families Who Need It Most
We serve expectant and new mothers who lack the resources to create a safe sleep and postpartum support environment for their baby.
This includes families in transitional housing, low-income households, and those navigating hardship during pregnancy or the postpartum period. If you're expecting or have a newborn and don't have a nursery or postpartum support — we want to hear from you.
There is no cost. There is no judgment. There is only a team of people who want to help you and your baby have the start you both deserve.
